Structural Pond Rebuild, Tyler Hill, Canterbury

This project in Tyler Hill, Blean, Canterbury involved the full refurbishment of an existing fish pond that had deteriorated over time. The original structure had developed significant cracking, making it no longer watertight or suitable for use. The client wanted a long-lasting, structurally sound solution that would restore the pond and improve its overall durability.

To begin, the damaged pond was fully assessed and prepared for rebuilding. The existing cracked surfaces were removed, allowing us to construct a new, solid foundation capable of supporting the upgraded structure.

A reinforced concrete base was installed to provide strength and stability. This formed the core of the new pond and ensured it would withstand water pressure and seasonal movement without future cracking.

Above the base, we built a retaining wall using H-blocks, chosen for their structural performance and reliability in water-retaining applications. The H-block wall was fully filled with concrete, creating a robust and secure perimeter for the pond.

Once the structural elements were complete, the pond was prepared for lining. The client opted for a flexible GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) system, a specialist product recommended for ponds due to its durability, flexibility and resistance to leaks.

The GRP lining was applied across the entire internal surface, forming a seamless, watertight finish. This system not only protects the structure but also provides a smooth, clean appearance that enhances the overall look of the pond.

With all works completed, the refurbished pond now offers long-term performance, improved strength and a professional finish. The transformation ensures the space is ready for use and built to last.
